Sheet count is calculated by dividing the total parts area (plus waste allowance) by the sheet area, then rounding up to the nearest whole sheet. This area-based method is a reliable estimate for most rectangular cut lists.
For complex shapes or designs that require grain matching, add an extra 10–20% on top of the waste allowance. For very large part counts, dedicated nesting software can squeeze out additional efficiency by optimally placing irregular shapes.
